AUTHOR ALERT: Melanie Marks

I'm finding my groove people!!! And boy does it feel good to be blogging again. Still a little slow with the posts, but don't worry I'm getting back into the swing of things.

That being said...

For my first AUTHOR ALERT of 2012 I am REALLY excited and thrilled to introduce a writer that I, for the most part, accidentally stumbled across.  Haha! Now please don't let my random reading lifestyle detour you from reading further because I am pleased to introduce you to YA writer...Melanie Marks!!

*stands & claps*

Melanie was born and raised in California. She is married to a naval nuclear submarine officer with three "terrific" kids. With over sixty short stories published in various magazines Melanie has definitely created a nice cozy spot for herself in the literary world.

I fell into serious like with Melanie after reading her long novella, HIS KISS (which I LOVED!)...it's a short but sweet YA romance.

"His Kiss"
"Ally’s world was totally on track: the right boyfriend, the right school activities, the right plans. But then she is bribed into kissing the school “bad boy.” And now nothing is right. Nothing! Because all she can think about is … His Kiss."
HIS KISS is available now on Amazon! GET YOUR COPY TODAY!!

Now unlike most of the writers I've met in the last year on twitter, I actually came across Melanie while perusing Amazon for something to read one quiet afternoon and let's just say I wasn't disappointed. Melanie has a fun, light, and witty style of writing that I find suits the reader in me perfectly, especially on a nice quiet afternoon.

AUTHOR ALERT: Natasha Slight

Happy Monday!

*sigh*

So many great authors on my list but (unfortunately) so little time to tell you about them all.  But today's AUTHOR ALERT features the brilliant and up-and-coming writer star, Natasha Slight. Having encountered this passionate writer on twitter (of course) I can't help but feel totally on the Cool-Writers-List being that she actually follows my blog.

Say, "Whaaaaaat?" "Yup!"

A writer of both fantasy and adventure fantasy fiction for young adults. This amazing stay-at-home mom of two is an avid reader, speaker of several languages, and has traveled extensively, further expanding her love of reading.

Natasha creates stories that offer her readers unexpected twists and turns that ultimately leave them wanting more.  She writes to inspire young adults, and to unleash the imagination within. Natasha currently lives in Montreal with her husband and kids.

And she's gorgeous! *sigh* Writing the rest of this post with a paper bag over my head.

The release of her DEBUT novel, GUARDIANS OF THE GRIMOIRE, book one of The Grimoire Series has been welcomed with lush reviews. One reviewer stating "...this book took me on the most amazing, wonderful, fantastical journey and one that I have not had the pleasure of being on, for many years.  It pulls you in so deep; you need to take a moment to breathe." - Sandra Valente of SSBookFanatics

"Guardians of the Grimoire"
"What are the realms to do when a corrupt god seeks to destroy three girls? When his greed extends into the human world, and sorcerer and king alike are seduced by the promise of ultimate power hidden in the Grimoire. If man opens the book, chaos is unleashed. If a god touches the book, he shall be rendered mortal.

After being instructed by the Spirit Mother to guard the Grimoire and protect its future guardians, the goddess Gaïa must seek refuge on a hidden island and make certain the sacred book is kept safe. When they come of age, Kerani, Tiluvia, and Cesca are awakened to their destiny in becoming Guardians of the Grimoire, and so begins their journey. But in a land shrouded in magic, and filled with as many friends as there are foes, will the young women be able to reach Gaïa in time, or will the forces of evil take over Utopia and forever haunt the universes?"
BONUS! Check out the GOTG book trailer...EPIC!!!

Today's Author Alert features an author I have been anticipating her debut for MONTHS. Yes, months! Not only is she a brilliantly creative writer, she is also, well, wicked cool. Marie Lu was born near Shanghai, but settled in Texas until going away to college at the University of Southern California, where she was swept off her feet and ultimately decided to stay. I'll try not to hold that against her. ;)

AUTHOR ALERT: J.C. Fiske

Today's Author Alert features a young, up and coming author who not only possesses a wicked creative mind, but who is also just an all around good guy.  American author J.C. Fiske was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southern New Hampshire University in 2008.  Currently residing in New Hampshire J.C. is an avid reader, martial artist, metal fan, lover of comic books, movies, and the likes. He is also a self-described "lover of all things geek!"

But gosh...isn't he just uber cute?! *ahem* What I meant to say was...now isn't this the face of an author on a mission?

But in my opinion, and to put it bluntly, things are only just beginning for this up and coming star, who recently released the first book in his Young Adult Fantasy series, Renegade Rising, published through Tenacity Books, in 2011. And who, from the looks of things, doesn't appear to be showing any signs of slowing down in the near future.  For while also putting the final touches on the next book in his The Renegade series, due out early 2012, this young writer, with his deep passion for stories and the art of story telling has already completed and released the first book of his SECOND SERIES (oh, my gosh!), HELL 'TIL HEAVEN (The Man-Angel).

Ugh, I know. Total. Writing. Machine.  But I LOVE these book covers!

"Hell til' Heaven"
"It's Christmas Eve in Boston, Massachusetts and a man is about to die . . .

After losing all he loves by his own hands, Joseph McCarley is a changed man. In most social circles (none of which he belongs to), he is now known as a drunk, a womanizer, and, to put it nicely, an asshole. But there are some, mostly his patients, who know him to be something else. A therapeutic genius.

Joe can save you, but only for a paycheck. He'll listen to your grievances, put on a caring face and spout advice faster then Buddha on a bender, but at the end of the day, the one thing he can't save is himself. That is, until a car does it for him.

In an unexpected, selfless act, Joe saves the life of another at the cost of his own and severs his soul from his body. Now a ghost, stranded on the streets of Boston, he has only his guardian angel, Lara, to protect him from the demonic hordes seeking to claim his soul.

However, all is not as it seems. A mysterious dark fire flickers within Joe, waiting, watching, and preparing him for a fate heaven can't predict and hell can't prepare for . . . "
Wow! Two words. Edgy and wicked! And I'm totally loving this storyline. *Squeeee* Can't wait to get into this series. J.C.'s books are now available at: Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Smashwords.

So get your copies TODAY!!! Do it. NOW. (Hehe.)

For more information on J.C. Fiske and his work you can visit his website! For updates and his other shenanigans you can also find this author lurking on twitter (@GisboFalcon) or Facebook!

AUTHOR ALERT: Raine Thomas

Today's Author Alert features not only a great author but someone I consider to be a dear friend of mine.  And for whom there are not enough words (well, that I know of) to adequately describe exactly how much she has come to inspire and mean in my life.  Especially to me as a writer.  Raine Thomas began her epic journey into the world of writing in the fourth grade after winning Honorable Mention in a writing competition.  Residing in Orlando, Florida this writer/wedding planner is seemingly on a very fast track to literary success.

With such passion for writing and her obvious love of sharing and mentoring to other aspiring writers, Raine Thomas is what I like to call the literary world's version of the double-whammy.  She's not only a brilliant author with the title Best Seller shining back bright and clear from her future, she's also one of the most sweet and down to earth gals you'll probably ever get to know.

Plus, she's pretty gorgeous! *wink*

Raine's original series of YA fantasy/romance novels about the Estilorians currently holds a solid 5-star rating on Amazon.  And after buying and reading, BECOMING, book one of her series, I found myself from page one to finish completely hooked and engaged by the characters and plot of this story.  And this opinion held true with every book in her series.

The Daughters of Saraqael Trilogy is now available for e-readers at: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple iBookstore, Diesel eBook, Smashwords, Kobo and Sony Reader.

***And soon to be coming out in PRINT!***

I seriously LOVE these book covers! So. Gorgeous!

Daughters of Saraqael Trilogy

What are they?
"They aren’t gods and goddesses. They aren’t angels. They’re the beings upon which human myths and biblical stories are all based.

They are Estilorians.

Humans and Estilorians once shared the earth. Over time, humans realized they could never have the powers and abilities of the long-lived Estilorians, and began warring against them as well as each other. To save humanity from themselves, the nine Estilorian elders joined together to create their own plane of existence, removing all Estilorians from the human plane and becoming beings of legend.

In so doing, they doomed themselves to an emotionless existence. No happiness or joy. No optimism or hope.

And no love.

Millennia later, their possible salvation comes in the form of three teenage, half-human girls…the daughters of one of their own.

The Daughters of Saraqael."
And check out the amazing book trailer for BECOMING, book one of the series!

And due to the fact that (in my opinion) Raine is a textbook workaholic, she is of course currently hard at work on her next series.  Go Raine!  With her latest series actually being the sequel to the Daughter of Saraqael Trilogy, titled the Firstborn Trilogy.  Oh yes, folks! There is still more to come of the Estilorians.  And having completed the initial draft of book one, she is already onto her first round of edits with this book.  I tell ya, she's one seriously determined storytelling machine on a mission.

For a sneak peek at book one of the coming Firstborn Trilogy check out this teaser!

For more information about Raine you can visit her website! And for updates and other stalking purposes you can also find her on twitter (@Raine_Thomas) and Facebook!

AUTHOR ALERT: Leigh Fallon

Today's author alert features a very special Irish writer whose novel, CARRIER OF THE MARK debuted in the US & Canada on Oct. 4th (HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY!), which has (as expected) already been making huge waves in the world of debut novels.  So give a nice warm welcome to Leigh Fallon! HURRAY!  And a HUGE congratulations to Leigh on such an awesome accomplishment.

Having lived in a variety of countries throughout her life, originally born in South Africa, but raised in Ireland.  Leigh would eventually find herself settling down in Massachusetts (USA) with her husband, their four children and one double pawed cat. (Hm, I'd like to see this cat.)

But even more unsurprising are the rave reviews her first novel is receiving.  Publisher Weekly called it "An engaging read" while other reviewers have praised it as being an "intoxicating" read that's both "thrilling" and "bewitching".  And who would expect anything less from the sweet yet humbly brilliant Leigh.  Plus, isn't this cover simply TO DIE FOR?!! *sigh*  CARRIER OF THE MARK is now available at Amazon US and Barnes and Noble.

"Carrier of the Mark"
"When Megan Rosenberg moves to Ireland, everything in her life seems to fall into place. She makes close friends with the girls in her class, her relationship with her dad is better than ever, and she finds herself inexplicably drawn to gorgeous, mysterious Adam DeRis. Adam is cold and aloof at first, but when Megan finally breaks down the icy barrier between them, she is amazed by the intensity of their connection. Then Adam reveals a secret about the magical destiny that will shape both of their lives but also threatens to tear them apart..."
If you're a fan of YA fiction than you should definitely be following the author.  With CARRIER OF THE MARK being only book one in her The Carrier series, Leigh is currently hard at work finishing the rest of her books that I'm sure will be just as brilliant as the first.

For more links of where to buy and/or pre-order your copy of CARRIER OF THE MARK please visit Leigh's website.  And to read more about Leigh and her other shenanigans you can also find her also on twitter at (@Leigh_Fallon) and Facebook.

And yes, there's also a book trailer! LOVED IT!

AUTHOR ALERT: Linda Poitevin

Today's AUTHOR ALERT features the delightful and crazy sweet Linda Poitevin, author of a new dark urban fantasy series, The Grigori Legacy, from Ace Books.  I encountered Linda (miraculously enough) on twitter a few months back and instantly took a shine to this lovely lady because 1) she's literally just the bees knees and 2) I am in serious literary love with her debuting novel SINS OF THE ANGELS, the first book of her series, The Grigori Legacy.

Linda currently resides in Ottawa with her husband, three daughters, one very large husky/shepherd/Great-Dane cross dog, two cats, three rabbits, and a bearded dragon lizard.  Seriously, Dr. Dolittle has nothing on this mother, gardener, coffee snob, and zookeeper.  Boy-howdy-let-me-tell-ya!!!

But the truly exciting news that goes along with today's Author Alert is the fact that TODAY is in fact the debut of Linda's novel SINS OF THE ANGELS! *Squeeeee!* I can proudly admit that I have been anxiously waiting for the release of this rockin' book for a few months now. (Which felt more like an eternity! Ugh.).  But I'm sure Linda has definitely been ready a great deal longer than that. So a HUGE congratulations to you, Linda, on this FANTASTIC day and your great achievement.

And now for the really good stuff!

Sins of the Angels: The Grigori Legacy
"A detective with a secret lineage. An undercover Hunter with a bullet-proof soul. And a world made to pay for the sins of an angel…

Homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis answers to no one. Especially not to the new partner assigned to her in the middle of a gruesome serial killer case-a partner who is obstructive, irritatingly magnetic, and arrogant as hell.
Aramael is a Power—a hunter of the Fallen Angels.  A millennium ago, he sentenced his own brother to eternal exile for crimes against humanity. Now his brother is back and wreaking murderous havoc in the mortal realm. To find him, Aramael must play second to a human police officer who wants nothing to do with him and whose very bloodline threatens both his mission and his soul.

Now, faced with a fallen angel hell-bent on triggering the apocalypse, Alex and Aramael have no choice but to join forces, because only together can they stop the end of days.
"

AUTHOR ALERT: Suzy Turner

**Additional content included after original posting**

Hello readers! I hope you all had a FANTASTIC weekend because mine was definitely just what the doctor ordered. I slept in (well, at least what MY version of sleeping in is). 7 AM baby! Woot woot! And I also got some rewrites done.  Yes, I said rewrites and not edits.  It appears my series is already getting a face lift, but I'm really excited about some of the changes I'm implementing despite the delay.  I just hope the changes are really for the better and not the worse. *fingers crossed*

But any who...it's another AUTHOR ALERT! YAY!!!

So for today's "Author Alert" I wanted to feature the lovely and delightfully vibrant Suzy Turner.  Suzy currently lives in Algarve, Portugal with her biker husband, two dogs, and four cats, and works as a freelance writer and author.  And has (in my opinion) a completely rational obsession for dark chocolate.

A writer of young adult fantasy and chick lit, her first two novels for teens, Raven, which has received top reviews by readers on Amazon, and December Moon, which released early this month, are both part of her THE RAVEN SAGA a fantasy witch saga for children and young adults set in the province of British Colombia.  I can't tell you how excited I am to dig into this series and how much I anxiously look forward to future works of Ms. Turner!  THE RAVEN SAGA is available on Amazon and Smashwords.

"After the inexplicable disappearance of Lilly Taylor's parents, she has no choice but to move to Canada where she unravels some frightening yet intriguing family secrets...
Her whole life had been based on a lie. Lilly had grown up in a loveless home with a father who she had barely ever seen and a mother who was... well, not very motherly. After they mysteriously disappear without a trace, Lilly is sent to Canada where she finds a whole new way of life. A life filled with love and people who care for her. But that's not all she discovers, Lilly also finds out that she isn't who, or what, she thinks she is.  Lilly has a very special ability and it's just a matter of time before her true self starts to shine. And when it does, her life will never be the same again."
"On her 15th birthday, December Moon discovers she is the descendant of a family of witches, kept in the dark her entire life in an effort to protect her. But when Lilly, her best friend, finds herself in danger from one of the world's most evil vampires, December will do everything in her power to stop him."
BONUS! And being that I've become an obsessive fan of book trailers, take a peek at the December Moon (THE RAVEN SAGA Part II) book trailer (LOVED it!) and let me know what you think.

For more information on Suzy you can visit her website at http://www.suzyturner.com.  You can also follow her on twitter @Suzy_Turner and find her on Facebook.

AUTHOR ALERT: Addison Moore

This weeks Author Alert is dedicated to the beautiful and brilliant writer, Addison Moore.  So not only is Addison as obsessed with chocolate as I am, she also writes paranormal YA romance (a double whammy in my book).  Residing on the west coast with her family, she is the author of the Celestra book series, and when not writing, she's reading.

But something that truly stood out to me about her work is the ease and flow in which her books read.  When I decided to purchase a copy of ETHEREAL (Book 1 of the Celestra Series) I was so thrilled to find myself immediately drawn into her story and the world of Skyla Messenger & Logan.

But something else that really captured my eyes, were these gorgeous book covers! Absolutely love them.  But even more exciting, since receiving top reviews from readers, The Celestra Series is now an Amazon Best Seller! So huge congrats to Addison!  Books 1-3 of the Celestra Series is now available for purchase on both the Kindle & Nook, so get your copies today!

Coming September 2011

AUTHOR ALERT: Elizabeth Miles

So today's AUTHOR ALERT is particularly special, because not only am I talking about a GREAT writer, but I'm also in the midst of celebrating, since today is the coming out of our author of the hour, Elizabeth Miles and her debut novel FURY! YAY!!! *fist pumps* & *high fives* for all!  So to start off I want to send Elizabeth a huge congratulations and a woot woot! for such a major accomplishment. You did it!

But not only does this writer, well, write, she is also an experienced performer within the performing arts world in Portland, Maine. I know, suh-weet! If you'd like to learn more you can read about Elizabeth in her bio.

Now one of the things I love most about her book besides the engaging plot is this gorgeous cover.  Such vibrant colors with an almost eerie yet magical appeal. I mean just look at it! *sigh* I love redheads.

"FURY" by Elizabeth Miles
It’s winter break in Ascension, Maine. The snow is falling and everything looks pristine and peaceful. But not all is as it seems...
Between cozy traditions and parties with her friends, Emily loves the holidays. And this year’s even better--the guy she’s been into for months is finally noticing her. But Em knows if she starts things with him, there’s no turning back. Because his girlfriend is Em’s best friend.

On the other side of town, Chase is having problems of his own. The stress of his home life is starting to take its toll, and his social life is unraveling. But that’s nothing compared to what’s really haunting him. Chase has done something cruel...something the perfect guy he pretends to be would never do. And it’s only a matter of time before he’s exposed.

In Ascension, mistakes can be deadly. And three girls—three beautiful, mysterious girls—are here to choose who will pay.

FURY is the first book of this sensually haunting series and you can now purchase your copy at your nearest bookstore as well as on your Kindle and/or Nook.  Reviewers are raving about FURY, the debut novel of Ms. Miles series as being...

AUTHOR ALERT: Cat Clarke

I just had to share the mini-adventure I had this morning.

Wiling away my morning I happened to stumble across a very interesting author. Her name, Cat Clarke. Okay, so first off, I love her name.  So clearly, the only smart thing for me to do was actually check out her site and learn a bit about this new mystery writer.  And upon arrival to her site, the first thing that stands out to me is this brilliant, eye-catching book cover.

HELLO! She's a redhead. Love redheads! (Why? I don't know. So don't ask.)

Absolutely gorgeous! Who wouldn't love this cover?! Seriously. Tell me who?

But beyond just being completely intrigued by the lovely cover I was also thoroughly drawn in by the plot.  Here's a little taste of ENTANGLED...
The same questions whirl round and round in my head:

What does he want from me?
How could I have let this happen?
AM I GOING TO DIE?

17-year-old Grace wakes up in a white room, with
table, pens and paper - and no clue how she got here.

As Grace pours her tangled life onto the page, she is forced to remember everything she's tried to forget. There's falling hopelessly in love with the gorgeous Nat, and the unraveling of her relationship with her best friend Sal. But there's something missing. As hard as she's trying to remember, is there something she just can't see?

Grace must face the most important question of all. Why is
she here?

A story of dangerous secrets, intense friendship and electrifying attraction.

I know. Awesomeness.

So in all my excitement to get my hands on this book, I immediately popped over to Amazon thinking to order a copy on my Kindle, seeing as I have patience the size of a speck on a dust particle.  But alas, when I searched her book it was to only discover that Cat's book hasn't actually been published in the states yet. What?! Ugh. So being that I am part ninja with a self-confessed obsessive nature, I reached out to Cat to find out how I could get my hands on a copy. And I was actually lucky enough to make contact with said author on twitter, @cat_clarke, and was able to ask her about the publication of her book in the US.  Unfortunately, I was sadly informed that her book was not yet available in the states.  So, per Ms. Clarke's suggestion I popped over to The Book Depository to discover that its also currently unavailable at their venue.  The final outcome (after all that) is that I will have to wait (and we all know how patient I am) for her book to become available to be shipped here to the states. *Sigh*

But despite my failed efforts to purchase ENTANGLED, I still think it was a successful morning because 1) meeting and finding new writers is always a positive in my book & because 2) this book STILL looks & sounds AMAZING!

So, if you haven't already tried out the links in the post, pop over to Cat's site www.catclarke.com and take a looksy.

Happy reading all!
